Pad is a very important part of a carpet installation. Pad is the foundation of the installation and act as a cushion to the new carpet. The firmness of the pad keeps the carpet backing from breaking down due to traffic and the softness of the pad allows for comfort. Most pad is made from polyurethane foam, but it is also made from rubber and fiber. The industry standards recommend a 7/16″ pad with a 6 pound density for a cut pile carpet and a 3/8″ pad for an 8 pound density for a berber.
